My First Post!

Hi people,


my name is Tom Ruben and I am a student at Maastricht University. 
I'm starting this blog as I wanted to share my big passion with you all, namely photography! I have been into photography for a couple of years now and I first started with mobile phone cameras and analog cameras, which was really cool but then I wanted more.. 


..luckily the first digital cameras came out, I say luckily as those memorycards are so useful, and my parents bought a, at the time, very good one. The digital era was born!
So I played with that for a little while, till I saved some cash to buy my own which was a Sony Cybershot. After lots of photos, this one broke down due to some sand from the beach and I had to buy a new one.
As the Cybershot felt quite good in my hands and was at a very reasonable price, I bought a new but better Cybershot, the W120. This one, still working today, gave me lots of fun and a bit more experience.


One day, a very close friend of mine and fellow photographer said he wanted to get rid of his DSLR Nikon D40 and I, by the time when I outgrew my W120, was very willing to buy it from him! 
Oh my god a real Digital Single-Lens Reflex Camera I thought, and bought it!
The buy included two lenses, a standard 50 mm lens and a 18-55 lens. After a week I spoke to my friend and said that I was thinking of buying a lens with which I could reach for a longer distance, but he told me to first check out the 18 - 55 lens and get to know the camera! So I did that and it helped a lot! After nearly a year I then finally thught it was time to buy another objective and got myself the Nikkor 70-300 AF-S VR. This one is perfect for me for now and I take it everywhere! 
Ofcourse there are lots of other lenses I would like to buy, but take this from me, don't rush it!
There is plenty of time!


In this blog, I want to show you photos I take with my Nikon D40 at home, at sports occassions, in the neighbourhood and on trips. With my photos I would like to share the techniques I used and ofcourse you can add your info as I'm far from an expert!
I hope you enjoy it very much and that I'm able to upload lots of cool stuff!
